Chapter 1: A Gift from a Prince
Viewpoint Character: Dr. Jonathan Hubbur

Rough Synopsis: I decided to try to write this story in chronological order. This is as early as I want to go. In this chapter Dr. Jonathan Hubbur will be introduced as a young boy having silly adventures in a new boarding school.

Location: This story takes place at Arthyn Academy, an invitational boarding school.

500 Word Synpsis:

A young Jonathan Hubbur arrives at Arthyn Academy in Warwick, Rhode Island. It’s a complex of drab, gray buildings in Neo-Gothic architecture.

Jonathan Hubbur finds himself being bullied by other students between classes in the bathroom, where another student by the name of Stephen Saunders, one of the black students, comes to his rescue. They decide to become close friends.

Jonathan Hubbur continues his reading of the more mystical texts of the Bible alongside his friend Stephen. Stephen shares to his friend that his father is a Freemason who’s been studying Solomonic magic with friends from his lodge and they decide to go to the library to see if they can find any information about it.

Once at the library they meet one of the younger teachers, Dr. Samuel Wulsin, who recognizes both their intellects and their tenacity for studying more bizarre subject matter than what students usually tend to study.

Dr. Hubbur and Stephen Saunders are introduced to one of the esoteric study circles comprised of a few teachers and a small selection of students, who meet regularly in the Estrild Library for instruction.

Together, they go through the grade system of this first esoteric order but Hubbur seems a bit restless and wants to go further along with his studies than he’s allowed. He starts to ask for stranger and stranger texts and one of the teachers starts to become concerned for his safety and sanity.

Jonathan Hubbur attempts an invocation that’s a bit too far beyond his power with a grimoire he found in the library that he shouldn’t have been able to get his hands on. One of the other teachers comes to his rescue, and this teacher turns out to have been the former master of Dr. Wulsin and one of the founding members of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.

In order to appease the young Hubbur, he begins taking private lessons in magic from the old master of Dr. Wulsin and his friend Stephen Saunders begins to exhibit veiled jealousy and resentment from the special treatment his friend is receiving, while he hasn’t broken any of the rules nor has he been almost possessed by a Goetia demon.

Jonathan Hubbur and Stephen Saunders have their first real fight, using whatever limited magical ability they have against one another, it’s enough for teachers to get involved but by the time they arrive at the scene of the battle the boys seem to have already made up, their bond stronger than ever.

Just for a bit of fun, Hubbur and Saunders decide to start playing practical jokes on other students who belong to other, rival orders at the school. Everything seems to be going fine for the both of them and the teachers seem happy with their progress and potential futures.

Jonathan Hubbur, alone in the Estrild Library at 3:33 AM, has an encounter with an otherworldly intelligence that calls itself Choronzon. They form a pact with one another and Choronzon offers Dr. Hubbur a vision that’ll remain with him for the rest of his life. He’ll spend a lifetime trying to systematically uncover its secrets.

Notes to Self

5,600 words: About 14 pages.
4,000 words: About 10 pages.
6,400 words: About 16 pages.

Try to see if I can write an outline that's a fraction of the size of the envisioned novel. 50,000 words would be better but if that's too hard try to aim for around 11,000, that's around an average of 500 words to describe in detail every chapter.
